I had no idea which fixed housing costs I could expect, or even the costs of groceries. Should I want a swimming pool in my garden, or not? You might expect all the answers would have been written anywhere, but that was not the case. In the meantime I have experienced this could be done differently. Aruba rapidly became that island in the Caribbean you hear nice stories about, to me. A journey centering a new culture, new (island)friends, new experiences and a new workspace. I rapidly felt at home in the comforting climate, with the culture and the people.
Due to my roots as a carpenter, quickly many house-seekers contacted me for architectural advice on renovations or when buying property in Aruba. Therefore, I came across many different real estate agents. After visiting many places on the Carribean, I fell in love with the Island of Aruba. Many people are aware of its comfortable seaclimate, the culture and the delicious dishes, but did you know the locals are very protective over the island? You will barely find any outdoor litter around and the open and friendly attitude of the local people creates a pleasant, cosy vibe. I started my carrier in the healthcare sector, taking care of people with intellectual or psychological disabilities. I helped people to live their life as comfortable and happy as they wished to live. In this line of work, you work with many different emotions and needs of both the patient as well as his/ her environment. In doing so, the most important part is to find solutions and possibilities that best fit these wishes. You listen, observe and also learn to notice the things that are not being expressed. This enables you to associate and understand the patient’s world. In a way, you become the subtitle to their world.
As a recruiter, I found my passion in establishing the match between employees and healthcare institutions. As I like to make new contact and motivate people, most people appreciate me for my ‘connecting’ ability. Within a short amount of time, I find the right buttons to push to get the best deal on the table. These skills have helped me to become the best mediator and negotiator I could be. My open and transparent approach creates a sense of safety and trust. The only thing missing, was the theoretical and practical basics of the real estate business. By educating myself on this business, I have developed the ‘total package’ of tools necessary to start my adventure as a real estate agent.
